Chapter 6

The two of them, they chased that box
as it quickly hopped away,
under the bench, through the trees,
were it went I cannot say.

“Hurry, hurry!” Scottie cried,
it’s going to get away.”
And do you know what Merlin said?
“QUACK!” I heard him say.

Of course, what Merlin meant to say was, I’m running as fast as my little webbed feet will waddle, but you probably knew that already.

That box just kept on hopping and hopping as if it contained the EverReady Bunny-rabbit himself, but no one heard any drums being played anywhere. Instead, there was just the sounds of little boy sneakers and webbed duck feet running across the ground ‘flip-clop, flip-clop, flip-clop’ and the ‘ker-thud, ker-thud, ker-thud’ of the little box as it hopped across the ground in what looked like a desperate attempt to escape. “Come on,” Scottie shouted between deep gasps for air, “we gotta catch that run-away box!”

Now can you just imagine a run-away boy and a duck chasing a run-away hopping box through the middle of the town in which you live? Sure, it seems a bit far-fetched but they say truth is stranger than fiction, right? Really, they do say that. No, I wouldn’t lie to you, not even a little bit. If I tell you there was a hopping box then there really was a hopping box. Look, this is my story and I say that’s what happened. If you don’t believe me then you can just go read someone else’s story!

What’s that? You say you do believe me-- really? Well why don’t you come back later and see what happens next, okay?
