Chapter 7
Please allow me to begin this chapter with an apology. You know how mad you get when youre trying to tell someone something and they dont believe you? Well thats how I felt at the end of the last chapter. I got mad 'cause some of you didnt believe me and now Im sorry, okay? I promise I wont loose my temper again.
Now, to get on with our story:
The two of them, they chased that box
as it hopped and hopped along,
and you can bet neither duck nor boy
quacked a happy song.
Through limbs and trees, down on their knees,
cross streets, and fields, and streams
they chased that box, it never stopped,
was a nightmare of a dream.
Through traffic lights, into the night
as hard as they could go,
but still that box gave all a shock
as they watched it on the go.
Now lets catch up a little bit for those who might be just a bit behind the chase: Merlin and Scottie were all worn out and had to take a break. They had chased the hopping box into the woods and neither knew the way back to the bench where they were already late to meet the man who was going to pay them for watching the box and now that it was dark they had lost sight of the hopping box altogether. Merlin, Scottie pondered, were lost, what do we do now?
To which Merlin answered, Quack, meaning, Anytime one is lost one should stay exactly where one is until someone finds you.
But Merlin, theres two of us, not one.
Quack, Merlin replied meaning the same rules still apply. Stay where you are until someone finds you.
The two of them laid upon the ground there in the deep dark forest. Ill take first watch while you get some shut-eye, Scottie said. You know, just like the cowboys in the movies, but no more had Scottie said it before he was sound asleep just like tired children so often do.
Quack, Merlin whispered, meaning, So much for him taking first watch.
Dont worry, ducks are very used to keeping watch while they sleep. Its called sleeping with one eye open and Merlin does it all the time.
